The importance of developing peaceful applications of nuclear technology in the world is not a hidden fact from anyone. Nuclear technology consists of three main parts of producing of nuclear energy, nuclear fuels and radiation application. The radiation application technology is also known as Non-Power Application of Atomic Energy in the technical documents of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Almost, half of the turnover of nuclear technology in the world is related to the field of radiation application, which can compete with the turnover of the fuel and development of nuclear power plants (electricity generation).
Iran Radiation Application Development Company (IRAC Co.), as a subsidiary of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, has the mission of applying and expanding radiation technology in order to improve the quality of life of the people and promote the country's industry. In this regard, main duties of the company are: Using radiation for the microbial load reduction and shelf-life extension of food products without applying chemical additives, seed correction and improvement, agricultural wastes reduction, sterilization of medical equipment, Production of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals for some diseases including types of cancer, microbial decontamination of sewage sludge and hospital waste to protect the environment; improvement and modification of thermal, mechanical or chemical properties of polymer materials in the rubber and wire and cable industries, shipments and containers and inspection at customs and points of entry; design and manufacturing of medical imaging equipment and healthcare scanners, particle accelerators and radioactive sources and other applications related to the radiation application development of nuclear technology.
